-
Hits (H) — occurs when a batter strikes the ball into fair territory and safely reaches at least first base without the benefit of a fielding error or a fielder's choice.
Types of hits:- Single: Reaching first base.
- Double: Reaching second base on a single hit.
- Triple: Reaching third base on a single hit.
- Home Run: Circling all the bases and reaching home plate on a single hit.
- Runs (R) — a run is scored when a player advances around first, second and third base and returns safely to home plate, touching the bases in that order, before three outs are recorded.
- Strikeouts (SO) — recorded when a batter accumulates three strikes during an at-bat.
- Stolen Bases (SB) — when a runner successfully advances to the next base while the pitcher is delivering the ball.
- Run Batted In (RBI) — credited to a batter when their action at the plate (usually a hit) results in one or more runs being scored.
- Total Bases (TB) — a statistic that measures the number of bases a player gains from hits. Bases gained from walks (BB), being hit by a pitch (HBP), stolen bases (SB), or reaching on an error (E) do not count toward total bases.
